Salzburg, Austria
Ok. Let me give you a heads up.
Obviously Austria is one of the most beautiful places in the world. However, I was not too fond of Salzburg. We rode from Italy to Austria on a night train. Now, if you have ever been on one, you would know that not much sleep actually happens. Melissa and I stole a little cubby for ourselves and attempted to get some shut eye. We took a bathroom break, and to our surprise when we got back there was a very upset Polish man, who had decided to share a room with us. He thought the guy that was in his little cubby was trying to steal his money, so he wanted to share with us. He spoke very broken English, but we were able to get that out of him. Throughout the night we learned that he worked for a car making factory, how the Polish currency works, that he had a girlfriend, and that he had never tried Jolley Ranchers. It was an interesting night to say the least. We were kind of scared, but we decided to try and get some sleep. Melissa slept next to him but we were all very close. Yep, now I can say I slept with a Polish man. Hahaha not really, but you know what I mean. His name was George, and there is a picture of us three in the train with him-looking very tired as you can see. Then, we got to Salzburg at 4am. It was pouring rain and the train station is all basically outdoors, I was not only sick and sleep deprived, but homesick as well. We ended up trying to sleep under a stair well next to a drunk hobo. Then at 6am we went to a coffee shop and then a bakery, where I couldn't help but sleep. It was a crazy night and day. But once I finally woke up we were able to see the missionaries, who knew Melissa's brother, and then we got to see a castle and Mozart's house! It was really foggy so the pictures aren't that great, but it was still beautiful.
Note that we hadn't showered in three days and that I wasn't feeling all that well. Therefore I wont be offended if you happen to mistake me for a man. :)
3 rants and raves:
i'm illy. you sparkasse. and i can't believe how manly and heeedeous we looked. what were we thinking? oh yeah, we were thinking, "i'm balls tired and it's freaking raining outside."
okay the story about the polish man is hilarious. and. salzburg is pretty so i can only imagine the rest of austria! and. alex. you are talented. really. i like the picture of the cobblestone street. oh. and i didn't mistake you for a man. haha. :)
oh the adventures of traveling! sorry you were sick. that is the absolute worst when you are traveling. but the austrian countryside seems to have made up for it.
